RED, WHITE, AND BLUE: OMNI LEARNING CENTER’S SALUTE TO THE EARLY DAYS OFF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

1700-1861

 

By 1700, the Eastern Seaboard of our country had been settled. We were a land of farmers and merchants, traders and politicians, with an independent spirit, which would produce the world’s first democratic Constitution less than a century later. We’ll follow the growth of America from its inception to the beginning of the War Between the States, which would threaten the continued existence of one nation under God and learn what makes our country a light unto the nations.

ETIQUETTE AND MANNERS FOR THE 21^ST CENTURY

OMNI’S most popular class ever returns. Oversold three weeks after registration for the fall semester of 2019 opened, we responded to overwhelming demand to add this class to our Spring 2020 lineup by adding a morning class to our Wednesday schedule. We’ll cover *Why manners matter  * Attitude: courtesy & respect * Good hygiene, dress, and manners *Public speaking * Proper social correspondence; * Proper behavior in all social situations *Table manners and table talk – social conversation. Say goodbye to fear in any setting.

 Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. beginning January 22, 2020.

TRANSPORTATION:
MAKING THE WORLD SMALLER AND HUMANKIND LARGER

OMNI explores the evolution of transportation – from 1 mile per hour to the exploration of space. Starting on two legs, we’ve progressed from the wheel to intergalactic starships, opening the doors from everything from trade to war. We’ll focus on the invention of the wheel, and everything that followed: from horseback and ox-drawn cart, to sailing ships, from bicycles to automobiles and trucks, and from the Wright Brothers to the age of supersonic jet travel.  One of the most important and exciting aspects of human life in every age – and it’s all here for you to explore.

THE RENAISSANCE AND BEYOND:
PART TWO OF A YEAR-LONG ADVENTURE
INCLUDING A SPECIAL BIOGRAPHY NIGHT

Suddenly, the Middle Ages were over! New technologies, the discovery of the new world, the expansion and rebirth of art forms and writing long-forgotten, the explosion of new religious beliefs and new means of governing. OMNI explores the period when the western world turned upside down and would never be the same again.  As an added bonus, OMNI students will explore the noteworthy personalities of the era in depth, and each student will participate in a multi-discipline display of research, public speaking, and performance for our parents and friends as OMNI presents its first Biography Night.  This promises to be one of the most compelling classes in our history!

Thursdays from 1:00 to 2:30 pm beginning January 23, 2020
