WHERE IN THE WORLD?

Discovering World Geography

Less than 10% of Americans can even name 25 countries (out of 195 in the world) let alone know anything about them! While it’s only natural that we’d want to know everything we can about the world, we scarcely ever think how much we don’t know about the Earth, the only home we’ll have throughout our entire lives. In this omnivorous class, Omni students will learn how we are connected through location, place, movement, region, history, and culture; they’ll learn to understand the location, physical, and cultural characteristics of places – how geography has always played – and always will play – important roles in the evolution of people, ideas, places and environments; they’ll develop a mental map of their community and the world so they can understand the “where” of places and events; and they’ll learn how human and physical systems have arranged and changed the surface of the Earth; to provide insight for wise management decisions about how the planet’s resources should be used.
